Maribel Nunez serves as Inland Equity Community Land Trust’s Executive Director and the Executive Director of the Inland Equity Partnership (formerly California Partnership). Maribel has over 7 years of experience working in social justice type work as a volunteer, community organizer, and program manager. Maribel initiated her career in K-12 and Higher Education teaching history. As a History Lecture, she taught at Riverside Community College for over nine years. In 2009, she was a volunteer community organizer with Organizing for America (OFA) to push for Health Care Reform legislation in DC. In that capacity, she developed a community outreach strategy, created an organized coalition to build Health Care Reform events. In that same year, she worked with students at UCR, Cal State San Bernardino, RCC, and San Bernardino Valley College against the tuition hikes. The following year, she worked as a community organizer for Working Families Win, where she identified candidates and platforms addressing the needs of the community. In this work, she recruited campaign volunteers and with a long term goal to have a support base to do community events and coordination for voter identification and mobilizing, including candidate and voter education forums. In mid 2010, she began working for California Partnership (CAP) as the Inland Empire organizer. In this capacity, she was assigned to organize and facilitate the work of the two Riverside and San Bernardino chapters to build and strengthen CAP’s coalition of community-based organizations working on similar issues toward the advancement of CAP goals. She developed a plan to be able to build electoral power among member groups in the Inland Empire, coordinate organizing campaigns for the local implementation of the Affordable Care Act-Low Income Health Care Program and Health Benefits Exchange in both Riverside and San Bernardino County. In addition, Maribel led numerous projects that engage underrepresented people in our political process and in finding voice and courage to stand up for their rights. Her workshops acquaint people with relevant political issues and equip them with effective advocacy strategies. In 2011, she was part of the team working with LULAC to get the Congressional, State, and local school Redistricting done in Western Riverside County. Another of her admirable projects is the High School Voter Registration Project, which she has led since 2011 for our League of United Latin American Citizens Colton chapter. To date, the project has registered nearly 6,000 students, a success resulting from Maribel’s attention to detail and commitment to civic engagement. She now works for California Partnership, an organization which focuses on keeping political leaders accountable for their political actions. In her work with California Partnership we organized a coalition to pass Health4All Kids, Repeal the Maximum Family grant, Lift the Lifetime Ban on CalWORKS, CalFresh, tenant protections and affordable housing budget advocacy. She is a true leader who works for improving our communities and strongly represents those who do not have a voice. Since 2019, co-founded and is executive Director of Inland Equity Community Land Trust (IECLT). Inland Equity Community Land Trust is a (501c3) non profit, promoting social equity and sustainable development by providing high-quality, affordable housing. We use long-term ground leases to create homeownership opportunities and preserve affordable rental housing for those who are housing cost burdened.
